Hey there!
Welcome. Welcome Welcome… to the pink room! So glad you are here. Whether this is your first visit or you are like … a regular. Grab a seat, get comfortable … we might be here for a little while.
So. It’s been a while. The last time, we spoke, it was cold. Now. It’s hot. Summer has finally welcomed us. There were some serious concerns however that it might never come… at least out here in the northeast… I was like why is it cold in May. Anyway, life has this way of doing the most and also nothing at all, somehow all of the time. So lots of life has happened. And I thought it might be nice given that we are halfway through 2023 (which by the way is kind of insane) to do a little check-in. I also will be proposing a plan that honestly is likely unrealistic but I figure I would give it a try and you can just not hate me too much if it doesn’t work as planned.
So check in?
I guess I can start by telling you the things and then maybe we can get into the messy.
Okay so the important things are as follows:
- I moved out of my childhood home. Well for five months anyway. It was a glorious 5 months nonetheless
- I worked way too many jobs anywhere ranging from 3-6 at a time. And it is important for you to realize that I don’t like working. So I don’t say (please hear me on this) I DO NOT SAY that with like a look at me kind of tone… unless you want to pity me and bring back artistic patronage … I am indeed accepting applications.
- I started thinking, reading, and talking a whole lot more about pleasure… which let’s just say has been freeing and terrifying.
- I had my first ever professional reading of a new work I wrote and it definitely was a gateway drug. Sorry mom and dad… theatre is just so seductive.
- Okay so maybe you remember me talking about that prestigious fellowship where they literally pay you to do what you love abroad. Oh well, yeah I got that. I am officially a Fulbrighter.
- So where are you traveling then you may ask. Germany. I am moving to Germany folks. For a whole year. Kind of crazy I know. And the craziest part is I am going to get to do what I am absolutely in love with … i.e. see, make and talk about a lot of weird and brilliant theatre-making that might teach our bodies, even if we ourselves do not yet know, how we might finally be free. Ugh. It’s super surreal and I have to keep reminding myself as I am currently waist-deep in paperwork and logistics that this truly is such a dream come true.
- Finally. I am back home for the summer before heading off to Germany in early September. Still likely working too many jobs. Utilizing that parent’s health insurance as much as possible. Trying not to pull my hair out over Fulbright preparations. Brushing up on German. Hopefully doing a lot of reading and writing.
Well. That indeed concludes the things. But I did say there might be some messiness. So how about we do this. I will tell you my plan for the summer with this blog and you can decide for yourself how messy that is or at least has the potential to be.
Anyway. Inspired by Pride Month and really just this year which for me has centered love but also as importantly what it means to exist honestly. To live and love honestly. I thought each week I could share with you a story or reflection about a dimension of myself as I am showing up now. For those who know me and maybe also our “pink room regulars” (yikes did that sound kinky to you too…), this past year has come with a lot of tumultuous changes in my life. And I thought this might be a great place to explore some of the questions and stories that sit and swirl with this me… even if it is kind of scary.
With that in mind… some quick logistics. The plan will be to post weekly on Fridays. If you are subscribed to this blog, you will continue to receive all posts regardless of where they are located to your email each week. If you follow me on Instagram, I will be regularly updating the link in my bio to reflect the most recent post. And lastly, if you don’t follow me or subscribe… first well you should and second I have created a separate tab to host this series of reflections. You will need to click on “Summer Reflections” under the Blog tab to access these posts.
Alright, folks… well that’s all from me. Hope to see you right back here in the pink room next week!
